@Regrann from @createthelove - I used to be addicted to the need for permanence. Whether is was my job, my bank account or my relationship partner... I was terrified of uncertainty. In a way, I wanted those things to remain consistent because it would give the illusion of consistency in a world that is anything but consistent. • I was terrified of change. I was terrified that if I lost everything I would have to become myself. • I had built a life on the predictable. I knew what my days looked like. Same breakfast, same route to work, laid out career path. • And then life (nature) reminded me that nothing in life is guaranteed, and no matter how hard I clinged to people or things, storms would always come. I was terrified of these storms because maybe my life wouldn’t look how I had so carefully planned. I didn’t know sunshine always comes... eventually. I didn’t know that life is always uncertain. I didn’t want to believe that people could come and go. I didn’t know that the consitency I searched for externally was really me looking for consistency from myself. • If there’s one thing I can tell you from having experienced rapid change, loss, pain and heartbreak... it’s that it always gets better. Behind every loss is something amazing waiting to be found. I know that may be hard to see or hear right now... but trust that your life is unfolding exactly as it should. And the more you resist what has happened, the more you resist what is to come. I would’ve laughed at this thought in my past: • The magic is always in the unknown. Love is uncertainty. I wish that wasn’t the case. I wish I could tell you that you can control everything... but you can’t. What I can tell you with absolulate certainty... is that it will all work out. You just have to let it. And trust. It takes a boatload of trust to keep moving forward and believe that everything is unfolding perfectly. How do I know that? Because that's how it's unfolded. I used to be so fearful of the unknown, and a lot of us get stuck in these patterns of familiarity... we drive the same way to work, eat the same food... we live a life that is very predictable. There's nothing wrong with predictability, but if you think about it, any situation that you basically know the outcome of, is a moment already lived. There's no variety, no curiosity and exploration. This is why relationships get stuck, and even single people stay single... because curiosity and growth causes shifts in us. It causes us to change and expand.... which is what we want... kinda. Because we also don't want to face the fear that's necessary for the experience. We don't want our lives and relationships to change, because then they become uncertain, so we live the same effing day, and have the same convos and eat the same goddamn piece of toast. Dive into your curiosity. What adventures have you delayed? How have you abandoned and/or paused your growth to keep your life safe? To avoid the terrifying reality of change? They immediately think of day spas, and pedicures, and long lunches with your mother’s group girls. I recognise that look because it’s what I used to think it was too. But when you look at the word SELF-CARE, it becomes a lot clearer that this is about the SELF. Not catch ups with girlfriends or afternoons off. It’s about connecting with yourself when you spend so much of your time and energy focusing on others. It’s about asking yourself - what do I need today? It’s about finding little ways to give that to yourself now. It’s about making sure that the SELF - that beautiful and unique part of you - is not completely lost in the coming years of children and juggling. Self-care, at the heart of is, is ensuring you maintain a relationship with yourself. That’s all.
